2019... Review of My Hobby Year!

Well as you may have noticed today is the 31st of December which means that it’s time for my annual look back and review of all my modelling projects over than last 12 months!

As you can see from the selection of pictures below it’s been a fairly productive year with a lot of models being produced for multiple armies and factions.

I’ve added to some of my existing armies over the last year, painting up small units of models to bolster their numbers or fill gaps as required.

My Crimson Fists, Flesh Tearers, Necrons and Sisters of Battle have all received some extensive reinforcements in 2019.

As have my small (but growing) force of 30k era Sons of Horus in Mark 3 Armour. I really love these guys but the colour scheme I have chosen to use is very time intensive.

I must admit that I am particularly proud that I have actually done some larger vehicle models this year... including two flyers. In all honesty I’m not a big fan of vehicles so for me this is an achievement.

I think having bounced between a variety of armies and projects has helped keep me interested over the entirety of 2019 and stopped me getting the dreaded ‘hobby lag’ that I have experienced during previous years!

On review it seems I’ve actually done relatively few Primaris Marines this year... sticking predominantly to the older marine models and filthy Xenos!

As well as expanding my multiple existing armies I have also started a few new projects this year so as to keep things fresh.
This includes a new force of Rogue Trader Era Blood Angels Terminators (made exclusive from original 1989 models) and an Iron Warriors army for 30k.

I know if I had focussed on producing models solely for one faction over the last year then at this rate I would have a pretty sizeable army by now...

... however I would probably have lost interest by February due to the monotony of being forced to stick to one colour scheme!

I also think doing a large selection of models from lots of different armies has allowed me to really develop my technical skills and improve my overall painting style... which can only be a good thing!

I’ve also done a few individual models such as some Imperial Assassins that can be used to augment other armies. Though in truth I mainly painted these because their models looked pretty cool!

In addition to my 40k/30k models I have also produced some new medieval fighters and knights for my own game: Outremer: Faith and Blood (published by Osprey Games) and these were great fun to do!

Overall I must confess that I am really happy with my output this year and I am pleased that I have managed to maintain a good level of productivity over the entire 12 month period.
My goal is to be equally productive in 2020 and try to stay on the hobby wagon! In fact I’ve already started to assemble a selection of models for painting in the New Year!!

So with that let me wish you all a Happy New Year! I hope you have a good celebration and I’ll see you in 2020!!
