Flesh Tearers Space Marines Painting Guide Tutorial

Okay so since I recently got back on the wagon with my Flesh Tearers project a lot of people have been asking me about the paint scheme I have used on these marines.

I am always keen to give readers what they want and so have prepared this quick tutorial for the basic armour livery.

Hopefully this will be nice and easy for readers to follow and will allow you to quickly make up your own terrifying force of these psychotic successors to Sanguinius.

1. After preparing and assembling the model give the whole thing a spray or airbrush of Khorne Red. This will give a nice even basecoat to the whole model. I then give the whole thing a watered down coat of old Citadel Red Gore (Army Painter Vampire Red is pretty much identical). I also give the areas of cabling a basecoat of Leadbelcher.

2. Once the basecoat is dry highlight with Ushabti Bone... it looks horrible now but it’ll look better later (I promise).

3. Now give the whole model a Nuln Oil wash! Be generous but also be careful to stop it pooling on the flat armour panels.

4. Now for a second wash, this time in Baal Red or Carroburg Crimson, focussing on this red armour panels.

5. Once this is dry then a final edge highlight of Cadian Fleshtone can be applied to the sharpest edges. The cabling can be highlighted with Iron Breaker.

6. Basecoat the buzzsaw in Celestra Grey then highlight the edges in White Scar.

7. Paint the Blood Drop with Mephiston Red then highlight it with Wild Rider Red. Add a couple of dots of White Scar to indicate reflection.

8. The black armour is basecoated with Abbadon Black with an edge highlight of Eshin Grey. This is then picked out further with a really fine line of Dawnstone.

And voila... add your final details and you have a mighty Flesh Tearers Space Marine ready to smash in the faces of the Emperors enemies!!

I hope this tutorial was helpful and I’d love to hear back from anyone who uses this colour scheme just to let me know how they get on with it.

    1. To be fair this is probably one of the easier colour schemes I paint en masse! My Sons of Horus are a Bitch to paint!

    3. Mine take loads of layers to get the pale sea green I’m looking for:

    1. Cheers Jon. I find it gives exactly the right shade for the colour. You could get a similar effect with wazdakka red but it’s a little too bright.
