Blood Angels Terminator Librarian - Rogue Trader

After finishing last week’s Rogue Trader Terminator Captain for my nascent Blood Angels force I decided that he needed someone to keep him company in the form of a Librarian clad in Tactical Dreadnought Armour.
I always wanted one of these guys as a kid but at the time I was intimidated by the large amounts of iconography scattered all over the model (which ironically when compared to modern space marines actually seems pretty sparse!)

I spent a considerable amount of time looking at assorted Rogue Trader material for reference and it seems that there was a bit of variety around the exact heraldry of librarians at the time.

Most sources seem to suggest a varying split between the warrior’s  main chapter colour and a degree of blue armour panels. In the end I decided to go for the later interpretation of full blue armour offset with a red shoulder pad. I also gave him a nice yellow auxiliary shield complete with a couple of freehand blood drops!

I painted the model’s Force Axe with a with my usual green recipe to offset the blue... however the blending hasn’t come out that well in this photograph.

For his chapter badge I managed to source one of the original Blood Angels transfers from 1989 that I’ve been holding onto for the last 30 years... I’m pleased it still worked and adhered to the model!

Finally I finished him off with a traditional goblin green base to tie this formidable fighter nicely into his origin period of the late 1980s/early 1990s.

I’m really happy with how this project is shaping up.... and this Librarian is certainly a great model to end 2019 on!!

  2. I believe this is the original chapter approved colourscheme from back in the day: Blue for librarians, red for techmarines and white for medics. Of course, the Space Wolves didn't adhere to this.
This was also the time that all models were abundantly adored with skulls.
He looks outstanding, fantastic work on all the iconography. And this might sound stupid, but it's good to see the goblin green base and regular flock to finish him off 😊.
